Our favorite tips for your bike tour
Whether you conquer the mountains on your own or with e-assistance while mountain biking in Austria is entirely up to you. The same goes for choosing your route, as there are numerous options, some of which start right from our hotel. And especially with kids, sometimes a leisurely tour with a stop at a mountain hut and a playground is enough to keep all generations happy!
Our recommendations for easy routes are the Forsthofalm loop, the Gunzi Trail or the Buchensteinwand loop. If you want a more strenuous challenge, you can really push yourself on the ‘Eiserne Hand’ or the ‘Hundstein’. But always remember: safety first! Always choose your bike tour according to your ability and personal fitness level. We at the Mountain Bike Hotel Der Löwe are happy to give you tips and tell you about the most beautiful e-bike and MTB tours around Leogang.

Big, bigger, epic
The Epic Bikepark Leogang
As one of the largest bike parks in Europe, The Epic Bikepark Leogang offers a 322,917 ft² practice area, the Riders Playground, and its own World Championship and World Cup track. Another highlight is the World Champs Pump Track with its jump & dirt line. Concentration and a good sense of balance are required here if you want to ride over the undulating terrain without pedalling, but by ‘pumping’ instead. Brand new since summer 2024 is the ‘Alte Schmiede Trail’. Pure riding pleasure is guaranteed on this moderately difficult single trail.
What makes Austria's largest bike park the place to be for active holidaymakers? Nine mountain railways, where you can conveniently transport your bike, seven mountains and 90 kilometres of lines and trails. All this is included in the new bike ticket, so you can expect pure riding fun from May to early November here in the bike destination of the Salzburg region.
Frequently asked questions on the topic
Bike holidays at Hotel Der Löwe Leogang
Is my bicycle stored safely at the hotel?
Yes, because our bike room is not only securely lockable, but also has video surveillance. There is also a separate lockable and heated locker per room for equipment.
Do I also need body protection, or is a helmet sufficient for safety?
‘Normal’ e-bike and MTB tours do not require any greater protection than a helmet in good condition. When touring in bike parks, on trails and when freeriding, your back and limbs should always be protected, and remember to be prepared for minor repairs. You should also pack a water bottle, a small snack, first aid supplies and a GPS device.
I don't have a bike myself, what should I do?
No problem. We offer modern e-mountain bikes with 750-watt Bosch motors and gravelbikes for hire at a price of €60 per day (subject to availability). There are several hire shops in Leogang itself, offering bikes for a wide range of requirements.
Can I go on a cycling holiday in Leogang even as a beginner?
Of course! Leogang also has great routes for bloody beginners. The local bike schools offer the opportunity to be introduced to this fascinating sport by professionals. Here you can learn everything from preparation to the correct adjustment of your bike, the right riding technique and what to do in the event of a breakdown.
Everyone's talking about it, but: what is gravel biking?
Gravel biking gives you more flexibility in planning your trip, as these bikes are a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike. Wider tyres allow you to ride on almost any surface, and the option of fitting luggage racks and mudguards makes real bike packing adventures possible. Leogang also offers great tours for this! You can find more information on our gravel biking page.
